HOW IS THE PRACTICAL HANDGUN COMPETITION SCORED?
Scoring in practical handgun competition is a combination of time and score on the target. An electronic timer is used to record a competitor's time to complete a stage. A discounting factor is applied to calculate the target score taking into account the power factor or “kick” factor of the firearm being used.
HOW IS THE CLUB STRUCTURED?
The Club has an elected Club Committee which is responsible for the day to day running of the club. Due to the culture of participation at the club the committee act as facilitators assisting each member to make a contribution.
The senior club-appointed positions are listed below -
These roles are elected annually at the Club AGM in August.
WHAT IS THE NORMAL ROUTINE ON AN AVERAGE SHOOT DAY?
A normal club competition day consists of a match designed by a Match Director. The match setup begins 1 to 2 hours prior to the start time of the match and the Match Director works with a team of members to setup the match.
A typical match is made up of four to six stages which are scenarios of "practical" situations.
A Safety Officer inspects these stages and clears them as “safe”
These scenarios can require from 6 shots to 32 shots to complete. Each shooter is expected to plan how he / she will shoot these stages after first considering his/ her own abilities as well as the limitations of his/ her firearm. Each stage is supervised by a senior shooter appointed as a Range Officer.
ARE THERE ANY OTHER FACTORS FOR ME TO CONSIDER WHEN CHOOSING TO JOIN WCP&RC?
WCP&RC conducts regular monthly competitions as well as State and National level competitions from time to time.
The competition allows for firearms to be classified as Standard (no major modifications) or Open (compensators and red-dot electronic sights allowed). Our club members support predominantly the Standard competition.
A grading system (allowing for Master, A, B, C, D grades) allows all competitors to be competitive at their own level and equally able to win club trophies at the monthly competitions, club championships and State and National events.
The club has a clubhouse, BBQ and light refreshments available on most shoot days and all are welcome to stay back and take advantage of these facilities.
